Functional Health Impairment according to Demographic and Environmental characteristics.



Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between general characteristics and functional health status.
Assessing tool used for this study was the old Americans Resources and Services procedures; Multidimetional Functional Assessment Questionaire A purposive sample consisted of 379 persons. The subjects were divided into two groups who reside at
home
and
at the institution. The data were collected by the interview from Feb. 26 to March 26 1990 and analysed by using percent, t-test, F-test and correaltion.

@EN According to gender, the degree of old women's impairment of Physical health and activities of daily living was higher than old men's who reside at home, But in the institution, the degree of old women' s impairment was higher in Mental
health
than
old men's. According to age. The degree of impairment in relation to physical health was the higher in 70-74 aged group, and the impairment of activities of daily living was increased in the elderly who reside at home, Mental health impairment of
the
elderly who in the institution was significantly different according to age.
The degree of the impairment in relation to mental health and activities of daily living of high educational group was lower than of low educational group in the elderly who reside at home. The impairment of social resources was higher in high
educational group but the impairment of mental health was than in low educational group.
As compared elderly who home with in the institution, the group who reside at home impaired less than institution in relation to social resources, mental, physical helath, and activities of daily living. The group who live in home had the highest
impairment of physical health, but group who live in the institution had the highest impairment in social resources.
As for the group who reside at home, subjective health perception was negatively correlated to the impairment of physical and mental health. There was negatively correlated subjective health perception to the impairment health in
institutionalized
aged
group.
Therefore, for promoting the health functional status of the elderly, it is necessary that we develop the strategy and do research about the family and community support system.
